Excellent wines – cheers! These are the best wines from Styria

Our Styrian wine is excellent: On Thursday, the Chamber of Agriculture announced its winners and the winery of the year.

There are over 1800 wineries in Styria. It is therefore a huge honour to be named the best winery of the year. This year the title went to the Weber winery in St. Stefan ob Stainz in western Styria. The Weber family produces Schilcher there and runs a popular wine tavern. The family can also be pleased about the double victory in the wine competition: their Gelber Muskateller and their Schilcher Klassik were awarded. 500 producers entered 1947 wines in Styria’s largest wine competition. The Grabin Labuttendorf winery won twice with its Pinot Blanc and the Chardonnay Ried Stermetzberg, other winners of the most famous varieties: Teltscher winery (Welschriesling), Rudolf and Petra Schuster winery (Chardonnay Classic), Adam-Lieleg winery (Sauvignon Blanc). A trip always pays off “The extremely strict selection process shows how difficult it is to become a state winner,” says winegrowing director Werner Luttenberger. “The winning wines can be tasted in the Styrian wine shop in Sankt Anna. But a visit to one of the successful companies is still a special experience.”
