Excitement in Baden – schoolchildren on the “Gun in hand” excursion

A teacher’s excursion to “laser tag” with schoolchildren from Baden (Lower Austria) causes an uproar in times of war. According to the school, it was not a school event, but a private meeting at the request of the students. The action was still “more than inappropriate”.

Play war while people lose their lives in the Ukraine conflict and families may be separated forever. “How can you do something like that?” An outraged father reported to the “Krone”. His child attends the Gymnasium Biondekgasse in Baden. As a final outing this year, a teacher came up with something very special: “He’s going laser tag shooting with the 12-year-old students. You aim a weapon in your hand at your fellow human beings. And that at a time when people are dying in war,” he says, horrified. In addition, there is already an increased potential for violence in the class. No school event The school understands the excitement: “It was a private excursion by the teacher at the express request of some students after the hiking day,” confirms director Birgitta Stieglitz-Hofer. It was not a school event and was more than inappropriate. “We would never condone something like that,” explains the principal. In the meantime, there should have been a clarifying discussion with the responsible teacher. “Visiting a laser tag in times of war is very sensitive and is not recommended,” says the education department.
