It’s set for the showdown of the German Rally Championship in 2021: The battle for the title of German Rally Champion will be decided at the AvD Saxony Rally next weekend (October 28th to 30th).

In the ADAC Rallye Masters, too, the championship decision is made in the final rally of the season. The ADAC Opel e-Rally Cup is also back in Saxony. The world’s first fully electric one-make rally cup closes its premiere year around Zwickau. N-tv reports on the highlights of the AvD Saxony Rally 2021 in the DRM magazine “PS – DRM German Rally Championship” on Saturday, November 6th at 9:30 am and on Sunday, November 7th at 7:30 am .

The previous season of the German Rally Championship has shown thrilling rally sport: Full starting fields and impressive time duels in the top class of Rally2 cars made the hearts of rally fans beat faster. Changes in leadership in the previous championship races and in the overall standings were part of the agenda. At the Saxony Rally, the race between the two best-placed teams is now culminating: Dominik Dinkel and his co-driver Pirmin Winklhofer (Ford Fiesta Rally2) are only a wafer-thin ahead of Marijan Griebel and Alexander Rath (Citroën C3 Rally2) with a total of 116 points before the final come to a total of 113 points. With victory in mind, Julius Tannert (Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo) would also like to have a say in the overall standings. The local hero from Zwickau is currently claiming third place overall in the German Rally Championship together with co-driver Jan Enderle. 20 points separate the duo from Griebel / Rath and 23 from Dinkel / Winklhofer.

Over the course of the season, Christian Riedemann and his navigator Lara Vanneste (VW Polo GTI R5, 58 points) also proved that they can be expected at any time. The German-Belgian duo already showed strong special stages, in Saarland they fought with Griebel / Rath for victory until the last second. Philip Geipel / Katrin Becker-Brugger (Skoda Fabia R5, 39 points) and Carsten Mohe / Alexander Hirsch (Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo, 33 points) would like to build on previous accents. The two Saxon pilots Geipel and Mohe also attack again in the direction of the front positions at the home game.

DRM also crowns the new 2WD and Historic Champions in Saxony

Everything is open before the final, including in the special ratings of the German Rally Championship. The 2WD classification is led by Alexander Merkel and Lisa Kiefer (Opel Corsa Rally4, 81 points). Armin Holz (Citroën DS3 R3T Max, 72 points) is within striking distance. Konstantin Keil / Stefanie Fritzensmeier (Citroën DS3 R3T Max) and Norman and Michaela Kreuter (Peugeot 208 Rally4), each with 61 points, ranked third and fourth. In the DRM Historic classification for rally vehicles in their original historical condition, which will be held for the first time in 2021, things are tight between Walter Gromöller / René Meier (Opel Ascona 400, 123 points) and Andreas Dahms / Paul Schubert (Porsche 911, 120 points).

A veteran reaches for the title in the ADAC Rallye Masters

The highlight and unique selling point of the ADAC Rallye Masters is that in the popular ADAC mass sport rally series, thanks to the class ratings, participants can fight for the overall victory in a wide variety of rally vehicles. The historic team of Walter Gromöller / René Meier took advantage of this. They achieved two class wins (NC2) and also scored once in second and once in third place. This brings the team to first place in the overall ranking with a total of 105 points. In the table follow Tarek Hamadeh-Spaniol (Citroën C2, NC4) with 84 points and Alexander Merkel / Lisa Kiefer, who are also rated in the RC4 class of the ADAC Rallye Masters with their front-wheel drive, with 71 points. Before the final, the top 5 complete two other NC1 teams with Andreas Dahms / Paul Schubert (70 points) and Martin Christ / Heinke Möhrpahl (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo, 69 points). Christ will start the season finale in Saxony together with co-driver Tino Krajewski from Jahnsdorf in Saxony.

Wild ride on the streets around Zwickau

For the last time in the 2021 season, the rally specialists of the DRM and the ADAC Rallye Masters will have to complete demanding special stages in the best possible time. Around Zwickau, in the Zwickauer Land and in the Vogtland, Julius Tannert and Co. are waiting for twelve varied special stages with a total length of around 147 kilometers. The shakedown in Lichtentanne opens the Saxon rally spectacle on Thursday evening before the teams start the final preparations on the Platz der Völkerfreundschaft in Zwickau, the service park of the Saxony rally.

From the Zwickauer Kornmarkt on Friday, October 29th, starting at 4:30 p.m., the starters will set off for the first four special stages: The “Hirschfeld” and “Glück-Auf-Brücke” stages, which are a circuit in the city center of Zwickau, will be driven twice is considered to be one of the absolute highlights of the Saxony Rally.
