It’s a disturbing coincidence for Sarah Abitbol. At the beginning of 2023, Gilles Beyer, his coach died at the age of 66 a week before the launch of the show Holiday on Ice. For the skater, this was a notable fact since she signed her rebirth with this show. Note that Gilles Beyer also died without having been tried for the facts with which he was charged. “It’s a shock for all the victims. But I try to see the positive. Maybe his death saves me from a trial that would have been very heavy.” adds Sarah Abitbol. I still have some anxieties, like flying alone, but I feel 70% healed. It’s already a miracle after being so far into depression.” adds the 47-year-old figure skater.
Sarah Abitbol raped: “I wanted to die”
Raped from the age of 15 to 17, the mother of the family never thought of stopping skating. “It was my passion until the day I sank into depression. I no longer ate, no longer slept. I could no longer stand up, I wanted to die. I thought several times about swallowing my box of medicine to end it. I cannot explain how I am still alive today. Surely a sign from above because I am very religious.” she explains.
