Expensive hand switch – Porsche 911 S/T: retro racer with engine from GT3 RS

Porsche is celebrating the 60th birthday of the 911 with a puristic special model. At 1380 kilograms, the 911 S/T is the lightest variant of the current generation of the sports car series to date and relies on a high-revving boxer motor and manual transmission. 1963 copies are built. Unit price in Austria: at least 410,073 euros.

The coupé is powered by the 525 hp 4.0-liter six-cylinder from the GT3 RS, which is combined with a short-ratio six-speed manual gearbox. In order to keep the weight low, the two-seater has been given a specially developed lightweight clutch, which alone is said to save 10.5 kilograms. In addition, the roof, front hood, front fenders and doors are made of carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic, as is the rear stabilizer, the roll cage and a stiffening element on the rear axle. There are also magnesium rims with a central lock, ceramic brake system and lightweight glass. Overall, the special model is 40 kilograms lighter than a GT3 Touring with manual transmission. The standard equipment of the sports car, which has a top speed of exactly 300 km/h, also includes an extendable rear spoiler with spoiler lip, CFRP full bucket seats and the Sport Chrono package. A “Heritage” design package is available as an option for 24,364 euros, which includes, among other things, the exclusive body color Shore Blue Metallic, decorative foils and a brand emblem in the classic design of the original 911. The special model, which has been optimized for public road traffic, is intended to be reminiscent of the competition vehicle from 1969, known internally as the 911 ST. (SPX)
