expert reports reveal who the raven is

With the technique of stylometry, experts believe they have unraveled the letters to identify the crow. There would be five different ones and one main implication.

30 years after the discovery of the body of the little boy, the investigation continues to find the murderer (s) of Grégory Villemin, who drowned in 1984. In March 2021, the magistrates received a report from Swiss experts in stylometry, a technique text analysis to determine its provenance. “This expertise has just been added to the investigation file”, confirm to 20 minutes Thierry Pocquet du Haut-Jussé, the Attorney General. It had been ordered in 2017.
According to these analyzes, the main crow would be Jacqueline Jacob, the little boy’s great-aunt. She is said to be the originator of the letter claiming the murder. However, she is not the only one to be incriminated by the conclusions of the report. Experts identify five crows in all. The writings analyzed come from the family circle: Bernard Laroche (Grégory’s uncle), Christine Jacquot (his nanny) and Marcel and Jacqueline Jacob (his great-uncle and his great-aunt). Investigators are now moving towards the thesis not of a single murderer but of a “team” of criminals.

A controversial method

The lawyer for the main defendant, cited by 20 minutes, is angry : “The previous reports in graphology have offered totally different conclusions. (…) But if we have indeed compared the letters of the crow with a poor postcard of about fifteen words, it is even more rubbish than this that I thought !” Indeed, stylometry is usually used to avoid plagiarism, when comparing manuscripts of literature. Nothing to do in terms of quantity with the few writings analyzed. Justice has not drawn an official conclusion for the moment.
