Traffic in front of the Gotthard north portal is backed up over a distance of ten kilometers on Saturday morning.
The reasons are unclear. There is no accident and no closure.
One reason could be the school holidays in some German federal states, which started on Tuesday.
In the early morning, vehicles began to back up between Erstfeld UR and Göschenen UR. In the further course, the sheet metal avalanche became longer and longer until, according to the TCS, it reached a length of ten kilometers at 10.30 a.m. The time lost was one hour and 40 minutes.
The experts are surprised by a traffic jam on the north-south axis of this magnitude on a normal weekend: they were not aware of any special incidents on the route, according to the traffic information service Viasuisse. There is neither an accident nor a blockage.
