Several people were injured in the fire in a warehouse in Dornbirn in Vorarlberg on Thursday night. According to the rescue and fire brigade control center (RFL), three people were brought to the hospital with suspected smoke poisoning, and a firefighter was slightly injured during the extinguishing work. The warehouse in the area of a quarry burned out completely. The cause of the fire is so far unclear, investigations will be started, the police said.
A local resident alerted the fire brigade at around 11.30 p.m. He reported visible fire and explosions from gas bottles stored in the hall. When the emergency services arrived, the building was already in full fire.
The Dornbirn fire brigade, which had around a hundred men on a large scale, reported to the APA that it was difficult to extinguish the fire. “The situation was too dangerous for an internal operation, we could only carry out an external attack – and this one too with breathing protection,” said a spokesman.
The large amount of water required was also a challenge. The operation lasted until the early hours of the morning, it was only around 7 o’clock that the “fire off” could be announced.
