Passwords are an essential part of a user’s web experience. Logic would dictate that the password for each website be different, for security reasons, but in practice this would be impossible without a dedicated manager.
A password manager is a secure space that saves your different passwords and gives you access to them from a unique code. It is therefore important to secure it well and entrust it to a serious company.
Keys is available in beta
Keys is the password manager, designed by ExpressVPN and made available for free as a Chrome browser extension for Windows, macOS and Linux, to replace the one offered by default before being added in May in the VPN Express Android app.
Designed with “privacy, security, and convenience at its core,” this tool uses “zero-knowledge” encryption, which means neither ExpressVPN nor the cloud solution host has the technical ability to to decrypt your data.
Keys offers everything you would expect from a premium password manager with:
- unlimited credential storage
- two-factor authentication (in case you lose your main password)
- an integrated password generator
- an autofill feature for sites you connect to
- the ability to import and export the list of your identifiers
While its main competitor LastPass has limited its free clients to PC or mobile use, Keys offers synchronization on an unlimited number and type of devices. To test the beta, just go to the ExpressVPN site and follow the instructions. As the deployment is spread over several weeks, access to the extension may take a few weeks (it will notify you as soon as it is possible to use the service).
