The kindergarten building was a hundred-year-old house on Schützenstrasse in Winterthur, as the Zurich cantonal police announced in the afternoon. The building is no longer usable.
According to the police, around 100 firefighters were on duty during the extinguishing work, which lasted several hours. The fire brigade had to remove the roof of the building. The building threatened to collapse during the fire.
The cause of the fire is unknown and is being investigated by the fire investigation service of the Zurich cantonal police.
Smoke development no longer dangerous
According to “Alert Swiss”, the smoke development is no longer dangerous for residents. When the fire started on Tuesday morning, residents were asked to keep their windows closed.
Nobody was injured in the fire on Schützenstrasse. Neither children nor adults had to be evacuated, as the media spokeswoman for the Winterthur city police explained at the request of Keystone-SDA.
