“When we arrived, the garage in the house was already fully engulfed in flames and the flames were spreading across the porch at the back of the building,” reports the St. Veit fire brigade. “The roof truss had already caught fire.” Not only four cars parked in the garage were fully engulfed in flames – gas cylinders stored there also caught fire and some of them exploded. In combination with the enormous amount of smoke, this posed a considerable risk for the emergency services. A 28-year-old resident had tried to bring the fire under control himself and suffered severe smoke inhalation.
