Leave your ship in Starfield in the middle of outer space? This is normally impossible. Unless you use the command console.

Although space exploration is supposed to be an important component of Starfield, it turns out that this is actually rather limited by the game engine. If it is possible to reach a planet without fast travel, the freedom of exploration still remains relatively reduced. Low-orbit flight in the style of No Man’s Sky is impossible, and the atmospheric entry and landing sequences are actually loading times in disguise. Leaving your ship to float in space is, however, possible, but to do so you will have to enter a few codes into the command console.

Get out of your aircraft using this technique

To do this, you will need to leave the cockpit of your ship and press the “ 2 » (the small “²” is located under the “Escape” key on your keyboard) to open the command console. You will need to follow the following steps and type the commands without the quotes:

  • Enter “player.setpos x 10”, which will teleport the character outside the ship. Press “Enter” to validate.
  • Then enter “setgravityscale 0”, which will set the gravity to zero and allow you to float.
  • Close the console by pressing the “tilde” key again. You’re ready to explore the void of space!

Two important things must nevertheless be taken into account. Firstly, if you are using the console, some achievements may subsequently be inaccessible. Then, you may need to adapt the “player .setpos” command by increasing the value of the number. If your ship is very large, the value “10” may not be enough to get you out. Your turn to try !

A base on asteroids? Maybe it’s possible!

It is once again on Reddit that we find the most creative users. A certain WeirdConcern666 claimed that it was possible to build an outpost in an asteroid field. However, media editors RockPaperShotgun tried to get into it, but it apparently didn’t work. Asteroids have no hitbox once you are outside the ship. On the other hand, using this spacewalk feature can produce almost artistic results, as you can see in the video below.

If, for the moment, walking freely in space in a spacesuit does not seem to bring anything to the gameplay of Starfield, we can hope that modders will be able to do something with it in the future. However, the functionality remains nice for fans of photo mode and strange physical experiences.
