Extremely dry this year – flying sparks at the Easter fire: the building caught fire

After two years of the corona pandemic, there are more Easter bonfires this year – but it is not always certain that such large “campfires” will burn. In Wölzing near St. Andrä in Carinthian Lavanttal, flying sparks caused a building fire.

The local fire brigades are also on duty on Holy Saturday – there is no day off for the volunteer workers. So they had to move out to the traditional fire in Wölzing near St. Andrä in the Lavanttal – because an empty outbuilding nearby caught fire due to flying sparks. The fire brigades set up several extinguishing lines and were able to quickly bring the fire under control. There are no injuries. The St. Andrä im Lavanttal, Jakling, Eitweg and Fischering fire brigades were on duty. Return of the Easter bonfires after the pandemic For the first time since the beginning of the Corona pandemic, the Easter bonfires, which are popular with young and old, are taking place again. And with them, an ancient tradition returns – originally it was a Germanic custom in honor of the goddess Ostara. Sowing, growth, fertility and vegetation are celebrated.
