Blue eyeshadow is making a comeback. But how does it fit into the beauty ideal of 2024, which puts naturalness in the foreground?
Blue eye makeup is on the rise again and is enjoying a major revival thanks to bright aquamarine. According to Pinterest’s 2024 Trend Report, searches for “Blue Eyeshadow Aesthetic” have increased by 65 percent, while millions of users on TikTok search for inspiration using the hashtags #blueeyeshadow and #bluemascara. This year, aquamarine eye makeup is playing a significant role in the beauty world.
Aquamarine Eyeshadow: Gen Z loves Y2K
Generation Z is particularly fond of the look of the late nineties and noughties. “Blue eyeshadow always reminds me of the ’90s and early 2000s,” explains Chanel makeup artist Anna Payne in an interview with the British magazine “Elle”. Blue eyeshadow evokes memories of icons of bygone fashion eras: “I immediately think of Kate Moss and Britney Spears,” says Payne. But also the earlier style of Paris Hilton (42), Christina Aguilera (43) and Rihanna (35) serve as a great source of inspiration for the bright blue eye make-up.

But how do you wear blue eyeshadow in 2024? In recent years, the emphasis in beauty has clearly shifted towards a more natural look. That’s why blue eyeshadow or eyeliner in the shade aquamarine is now an absolute eye-catcher, as it hits almost bare skin and is therefore even more in the foreground.
Aquamarine is a color that can be subtle yet striking – depending on the intensity in which it is applied such as this make-up look from Lily-Rose Depp (24) on Instagram shows. To achieve the look, you should first apply a light foundation to smooth out imperfections and prepare the eyelids. The aquamarine eyeshadow can then be gently applied and blended to create a smooth transition.
