Crass eye make-up and perfectly blended colors? We'd rather leave that to the professionals – or shouldn't we ?! We reveal eight eyeshadow tips with which you can go from beginner to pro.

1. Prep & Prime

Eyeshadow primer is still very much underestimated. A good base is essential if the eye make-up is to last a long time. Alternatively, you could also use a covering concealer here.

If you have very oily eyelids, you should definitely set the eyeshadow base with powder. Even the baking technique is best here – just apply a good amount of loose powder to the eyelids and let it "work in" for a few minutes. This way, no eyeshadow can slip into the wrinkles.

2. First things first

Of course, eyeshadow can crumble down when you use it – this has nothing to do with quality, but with the pressing of the pigments. So that the eyeshadow doesn't land directly on your make-up, you should always make up your eyes first. At least if you plan to work with color or slightly stronger eyeshadow tones. Alternatively, you can apply a thick layer of baking powder under the eye and then sweep it away – but it is definitely easier the other way around.

3. Technical skills

Technology is everything when it comes to perfect eye make-up. Therefore: Try to perfect the fading out and also test new techniques from time to time. For example, you can mix several eyeshadows on a brush so that the result is super soft, or you can blend the eyeshadow outwards to visually lift the eye and open it up. Plus point: It even looks a bit like an eyeliner.

4. The lower waterline

Many people forget about the lower waterline in eye make-up. Of course, that's not wrong, but the look is more coherent if you work on the waterline with the same colors as on the lid. If you want, you can also use other colors to add a pop of color to the look.

5. Know your eye shape

In order for eyeshadow to work properly, you should know your eye shape. With so-called hooded eyes, you have more space between the crease of the eyelid and the brow than on the movable eyelid. Here eyeshadows get lost super quickly because you just can't see them anymore. Fades the eyeshadow very far up and out so that you can see more of the look. If you have round eyes, you should also fade outwards so that they appear a little narrower.

6. The right tools

Eye makeup is only as good as the tools we use. So if you try to put on a blatant make-up with your fingers, you will probably fail. Logical, that's not how it is intended. Eyeshadows should usually be applied with brushes. Sure, you can use your fingers for some textures, but you should work with different brushes in the crease of the eyelid.

A must for everyone: a fluffy blender brush, a pencil brush, a tied shader brush and a smudger brush. So you can work well for now.

7. Make a plan

If you are not yet so sure about using eye shadow and the combination of colors, you should take a photo as a template or think carefully beforehand what the look should look like. That helps a lot and you have something to orient yourself by.

8. Clean up

The look is ready? Not quite yet! So that the edges look nice and clean, you can clean the edges with a little concealer at the end. This ensures that your look looks a lot more precise and professional. All you need is a fine, firm brush. This trick also works great for looks with eyeliner!
