F-Zero 99 adds Classic mode

Is Nintendo trying to take the temperature? If the battle royale formula of F-Zero 99 has already convinced many players and streamers (greetings to MisterMV), the little craftsman now awakens old memories with Classic mode, which sheds modern rules to return to the fundamentals. No more super boost and tornado attack; the screen ratio automatically adjusts to 4:3 to recall the good old days of cathode ray screens. Only 20 players can have fun in this temporary mode which will return sporadically to titillate veterans – or introduce recent oldies to young players.

The road to fortune

Among the additions, there is also a new rank lottery which works a bit like bingo. Once revealed, the lottery displays a series of end-of-race placements and different cars. If, during your last five races, you have achieved one of these placements and/or used a corresponding vehicle (let’s say third with the Golden Fox), you will receive rewards accordingly. A little gacha free which only adds potential winnings. And it’s probably no coincidence that new cosmetics for the pilot card are joining the store in-game.

Finally, F-Zero 99 will refine its matchmaking to associate noobs with each other rather than throwing them into the lions’ den. A positive gesture which means that the high-velocity battle royale is receiving enough new curious people to justify such a measure. Not bad for a so-called garbage project (we heard your mocking reactions during his Nintendo Direct).

Patch 1.1.0 of F-Zero 99 is already available.
