F1 champion Max Verstappen crashes his car at the Virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans

In real life, few people have the talent that Max Verstappen has when it comes to motor racing. On racing simulations however, it always happens to the champion of last F1 season to make mistakes.

This weekend was the virtual edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the legendary French race. Verstappen was in that race, as reported by Autosport. These virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans attract many F1 and F2 racers to participate alongside esports racers. There is no need to be a professional racing driver to participate in the event, allowing esports riders to compete against real professional pilots.

On Verstappen’s side, he qualified in second place with Team Redline and when the race started, it only took him 2 turns to take the lead. From here on everyone thought the best pilot in the world would have no difficulty in keeping this position but in a race lasting this long, anything is possible. After 7 hours of racing, everything fell apart for the F1 driver.

After to take a break, as it would have done during the real 24 Hours of Le Mans, since the drivers each drive in turn, Verstappen resumed the race. However, it was enougha somewhat aggressive line above the edge of the Ford chicane to send Verstappen’s car spinning and colliding with the barriers, tearing off two wheels.

In addition to marking the end for his team and him in this race, this crash will have allowed the team Realteam Hydrogen, a mixed team of professional and sports drivers, to win the LMP class (Le Mans Prototypes). The team is made up of Felipe Drugovich (Formula 2), Oliver Rowland (Formula E), Jeffrey Rietveld and Michal Smidl (two esports drivers).

The other class of these virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans, the GT class, was won by the official BMW esports racing team, with Rudy van Buren, Lorenzo Colombo, Enzo Bonito and Kevin Siggy as pilots.
