While a bill on immigration should arrive in the fall in the National Assembly, Gérald Darmanin is trying to find votes, especially on the side of the Republicans. The latter have also announced that they will table two bills on the subject. Éric Ciotti, Bruno Retailleau and Olivier Marleix also called on Emmanuel Macron to organize a referendum on the question of immigration. “Achieving the widest possible consensus”
“We must have a policy worthy of the name” on immigration, insists Fabien Roussel. “Why don’t we set ourselves to work towards a Republican consensus on this subject? […] Let us all work together to obtain the broadest possible consensus with an in-depth debate with our fellow citizens on this issue, without racing to the shallot who will be closest to the positions of the extreme right, but by taking the problems where they are”, advances the national secretary of the PCF.
As for the difficulties in finding a consensus between the different parties, Fabien Roussel considers that “if we consider this question in political and opposition relations, we are not going to come out on top. It is an important, serious question, with human lives behind it, there are questions of human rights, of human dignity. And so, rather than getting ripped off, why not listen to those who work on these issues there?”, he suggests at the microphone of the Grand Rendez-vous, taking the example of “association managers” or “managers of important institutions who have had to manage the Ofpra, asylum applications, the issue of undocumented workers…”
“The PCF will make proposals”
For Fabien Roussel, the proposals of the LRs, and in particular the possibility of a hardening of the immigration policy via a revision of the Constitution, “are not serious”. “Let’s have a broad debate by giving all the elements to the population and not false figures, no fake news, without scaring people. This question is important with the climate crisis. We’re going to have to manage all that together and not than France.”
“Let’s study all this calmly and we will move forward”, he insists before assuring that “the French Communist Party will make proposals which will concern as much foreigners who come to our country, the right of asylum, work … But it will also concern French workers. We are all concerned by this question, “he concludes at the microphone of the Grand Rendez-vous.
