Fable loses its narrative lead


Anna Megill turned to Twitter to bid an official farewell to Playground Games: “I spent many wonderful years doodling in my fairy tale cottage, but now is the time for new challenges. Work on Fable was a dream come true, and turning the page breaks my heart. But Playground has assembled a heroically talented team; the project is therefore in good hands. I can’t wait to see what the future holds – for them and for me.” She also has clarified that this resignation is not motivated by professional conflicts, but by the desire to change universe. According to her, her departure would come at the right time to satisfy everyone without ruining production.

Anna Megill had arrived on Fable in February 2021 as lead author before evolving as narrative lead in July 2022, assigning him the heavy responsibility of rebuilding the universe of Albion. It was still, a priori, under the direction of Martin Lancaster, main writer of Batman: Arkham Knight. The exact distribution of tasks between the two feathers is unclear at present.

A page turns

Before tackling Fable, Anna Megill had sharpened her feather on big projects, including Guild Wars 2, Dishonored: Death of the Outsider and especially Control, where she worked directly with luminary Sam Lake. His web portfolio also lists The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, Murdered: Soul Suspect and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. A skewer of heterogeneous titles which guarantees him to quickly find a stable position. Besides, if you ever have a free CDI and a few pesos, the lady is looking for a project for fall 2023…

In May 2023, the author also published a writing guide for future video game writers, entitled The Game Writing Guide: Get Your Dream Job and Keep It. As the title suggests, it’s as much about learning the tricks of the trade as knowing how to navigate its inherent precariousness when you’re still a beginner.
