Arrived by surprise at the head of AFP in 2018, its CEO Fabrice Fries was easily reappointed for a second five-year term on Thursday by the board of directors of the world press agency. “The new mandate of Fabrice Fries will take effect at the expiration of the current mandate, that is to say on April 15, 2023”, specified the management of AFP in a press release.

Fabrice Fries has just been reappointed for a second term, for five additional years, without difficulty. The board of directors decided to re-elect him, without putting him in competition with other candidates. According to the staff representatives on the board of directors, this re-election was decided by 14 votes in favor and 4 abstentions. The council spoke after hearing Fabrice Fries on his “strategic project”, which “will serve as the basis for the negotiation with the State of the future contract of objectives and means” for the period 2024-28, according to management. from AFP.

Aged 62 and previously with Publicis, Fabrice Fries was elected in April 2018 for a first term after the surprise withdrawal of outgoing CEO Emmanuel Hoog. Candidate for his succession and in office since 2010, the latter had thrown in the towel after learning that the state was withdrawing its support.

During his first term, Fabrice Fries focused on the fight against disinformation (or factchecking) and digital investigation – the subject of a partnership with the Meta group (Facebook) – as well as on video.
