Facebook abandons podcasts, less than a year after launching its service

The social network Facebook has announced that it is stopping the development of its podcast and audio room services from its application, launched less than a year ago. If the podcasts will be permanently removed on June 3, the creators of this content will no longer be able to add them to the site this week.

Social network Facebook is shutting down its podcast and audio room services, less than a year after they launched, according to the news agency Bloomberg. Podcast, Soundbites and audio hub are concerned. Users of these services will no longer be able to add content to the platform this week and podcasts will be fully retired on June 3. Last June, the Facebook social network announced the development of new features in partnership with Spotify: a podcast service and an audio room service, accessible directly on the platform application.

A new goal: the metaverse

But less than a year after their launch, the results do not seem to convince the social network. In a message to its partners, Facebook says it wants to “focus on the most meaningful experiences”.

What are the most meaningful experiences? Certainly, the creation of the metaverse, a virtual parallel universe, which is Facebook’s major project and which largely weighs against this audio market which does not seem to take off. Proof of its new priorities, far from the audio market, the Facebook group has also changed its name recently to be called Meta.
