Corporations stop donations to Biden boycotters
Joe Biden becomes the next US president, but when he was certified in the US Capitol, some Republicans refused to abandon their assumption that the election was rigged. Large corporations are now turning the tap on the Biden boycotters.
In the United States, other corporations have announced a suspension of donations to MPs who opposed Joe Biden's confirmation as the new president. American Express head Stephen Squeri said that the attempt by some members of Congress to "undermine the election result and disrupt the peaceful transfer of power" was incompatible with the values of his company.
Dow Chemical announced the move for a single election cycle – two years for members of the House of Representatives and up to six years for senators. Several corporations announced that they would initially suspend all donations and check their further course of action, including Facebook, Microsoft and Ford. The individual donations vary in the four-digit range.
On Sunday the world's largest hotel chain Marriott and the health insurance association Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) announced that they would no longer support any of the MPs who opposed the certification of Biden's victory last week. The usually purely formal step was interrupted by the storming of the Capitol by supporters of President Donald Trump. According to experts, the events are likely to have serious political consequences for Trump as well as for his supporters.
During the certification process, eight senators voted against the formal recognition of the election results. Including Senators Ted Cruz (Texas) and Josh Hawley (Missouri). Republicans questioned the vote count in the states of Arizona and Pennsylvania. Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene, who was only elected to the House of Representatives in early January, responded Twitter defiantly at the donation cut: "That's okay. I'm happy with $ 5 donations from the 75 million Americans who supported Donald Trump. I work for the people, not the communists."
