faced with PS5 shortage, Sony launches a new overpriced bundle

It is clear that the shortage of PS5 is still relevant. To compensate for the absence of its latest console in stores, Sony continues to offer PS4s and even launches new bundles. This is particularly the case in Spain with this new pack sold at a terrifying price.

Since its launch in November 2020, the PS5 has remained a hard-to-find product. The fault in particular with the world shortage of semiconductors, which prevents Sony from producing consoles in sufficient quantities to meet the immense demand.

As a result, the manufacturer has decided to postpone the retirement, however well deserved, of the PS4. In January 2022, several reports confirmed that Sony has restarted production of its old flagship console, the idea being to offer an alternative to gamers looking for a machine… And to push even further the already staggering sales of the PS4.

It’s now 2023, and while Sony says PS5 stocks will be much higher this year, the next-gen console is still rare in stores in some countries, including Spain. For good reason, if French, Dutch, Belgian, British or American users can obtain more easily a PS5 via Playstation Direct (Sony’s official shopping platform), this is not the case with our Spanish neighbours.

Sony launches overpriced new PS4 bundle in Spain

In fact, it is not surprising to learn that Sony will launch this February 17 a new PS4 bundle on the Iberian market. In any case, this is what the renowned insider Roland Quandt reveals on Twitter. This pack includes a “classic” PS4 Slim with its 500 GB hard drive.

In addition, it comes with three games, namely:

  • Gran Turismo Sports
  • Tad The Lost Explorer
  • Rachet & Clank

Where the rub is the price of this bundle: €359! Suffice to say that the bill is salty, especially when you look at the games supplied with this pack. Gran Turismo Sport and Rachet & Clank were released on PS4 in 2017 and 2016 respectively and both titles claim the label today Playstation Hitsiconic console titles sold new for less than €20. As for Tad The Lost Explorer, it is a platform game aimed at a young audience launched in November 2022 (priced at €29.99 in France).

If this pack still contained recent hits like Horizon Forbidden West or God of War Ragnarok, we could understand this particularly high price… We suspect that Sony has established this price according to inflation in Spain, which reached 5.8% in December 2022 over one year.
