In Germany, a circus decided to replace all living animals with holograms.
Already since 1991, the Roncalli circus had stopped using wild animals.
Animal welfare above all
For several years now, the hologram process has been used for various occasions. In particular, we were able to benefit from holograms for concerts by ABBA, Claude François, or even Maria Callas, without forgetting the now synchronized meetings of Jean-Luc Mélenchon. In Germany, a circus decided to use this technology.
Already in 1991, the Roncalli circus decided to ignore the presence of wild animals. Five years ago, he banned all living animals from his show, with a first attempt involving holograms. In 2023, all the animals are back at Roncalli, and still in the form of holograms.
The technology to deliver a great show
Because, according to his director, he is “not more suitable to show real animals on stage », the Roncalli circus has therefore decided to renew itself, by replacing the lions, tigers, elephants and all the other animals with digital versions, boosted by new technologies and 3D imaging.
To make this technical feat possible, the circus had to completely review its proposal, including spectators surrounding the ring. In this way, everyone can fully benefit from the images projected by a little more than ten projectors installed on the ceiling, on a very fine mesh net.
In France, at the end of 2021, Parliament adopted a bill intended to combat animal abuse. The latter notably provided for the gradual ban on wild animals in traveling circuses and dolphinariums, the end of the sale of puppies and kittens in pet stores (from 2024), and tougher penalties for abuse or abandonment. Furthermore, circuses in France will no longer be able to present or hold wild animals by 2028. In the meantime, we will continue to follow the advances in holograms, like those used by NASA to care for astronauts on the ISS.
