Opel presents the Crosscamp Flex, a 100% electric camper van prototype based on the Zafira-e Life. Presented at the Düsseldorf Motor Show, it could overshadow the Volkswagen ID. Buzz from 2023.
Campervans are all the rage right now, and builders have understood that. More and more of them are entering this market, with thermal models, but also electric ones. After Volkswagen, which unveiled its ID a few months ago. Buzz, other brands also want to try their luck and attract new customers. We are thinking in particular of Renault, which yesterday unveiled its Hippie Caviar Motel concept, a 100% electric fitted van based on the Kangoo E-Tech Electric.
A comfortable van for four people
Today, it’s Opel’s turn to lift the veil on another vehicle, called Crosscamp Flex. The latter also takes the form of a leisure vehicle, which can accommodate up to four occupants. Two beds are indeed accessible: a first under the roof, while the rear bench seat converts into sleeping accommodation for two additional people. The front seats can swivel 180° to create a friendly space when the vehicle is parked.
Opel’s campervan, which is currently presented as a prototype, is also delivered with a kitchenette equipped with a gas cooker and a small sink. Storage is also provided, as well as a container for drinking water and waste water. On the other hand, it would seem that the vehicle is not equipped with a shower, and nothing is said about the toilets. Finally, a 95 Ah auxiliary battery is included for lighting, allowing you to power a cooler and a USB socket to recharge your camera or smartphone.
Lots of equipment
Opel is rather talkative about its electric van and details some elements of its technical sheet. This then embeds a 75 kWh battery located under the floor, allowing it to display a range of 322 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle. For comparison, the Volkswagen ID. Buzz has a 77 kWh battery, for a range of around 400 kilometres. Charging can be done at a maximum power of 100 kW in direct current, thus allowing to reach 80% in 48 minutes. It’s long !
The Opel Crosscamp Flex is also equipped with numerous driving assistance technologies, such as collision avoidance warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assistance and semi-adaptive cruise control.
An arrival scheduled for 2023
In the first place, the electric camper van will be presented to the public at the Düsseldorf Motor Show, which will take place from August 26 to September 4. Unfortunately, Opel unveils in its press release a commercial arrival for 2023 as well as a simpler version, Crosscamp Lite. It could then become an alternative to the ID. Buzz, but also at the Renault Trafic SpaceNomad, only available with a combustion engine.
