Fake call – pensioners lose 2320 euros through cyber fraud

On Friday, a couple from Salzburg received a momentous call: a fraudster had pretended to be an employee of their bank and pointed out to the pensioner (71) an account security leak. As a result, the cyber fraudster got hold of 2320 euros.

According to the alleged employee, the security leak came as a result of a faulty IP address. For the change, you need the access data to the accounts of the couple. The man logged on to his bank’s website. The login process appeared as usual. A confirmation box was then sent to him, which the man clicked twice because, according to the caller, the first confirmation didn’t work. After the second confirmation, the stranger ended the call. After the call, the man became skeptical and obtained information from his bank’s service center. There he was informed that 1,500 euros had been debited from his account and 820 euros from his wife’s account. The investigation is ongoing.
