Fake traders operating from Israel have carried out several cryptocurrency scams in France.

And the loot is substantial for these men, since they would have made 14 victims in total, for an overall damage of some 350,000 euros. One person in particular was relieved of significant funds. For the moment, only one individual has answered for his actions in court.

Fake traders, and a bankrupt platform

The world of cryptocurrency is still dangerous for the uninformed. While investors already have to deal with major problems like the collapse of FTX, or the bankruptcy of Genesis, they must also avoid the onslaught of unscrupulous scam artists.

And it is one of them who has just been sentenced by the Criminal Court of Fontainebleau to four years in prison, including two firm, for having defrauded a man from Château-Landon (Seine-et-Marne). The now prisoner belongs to a network of fake traders, whose brain, his cousin, is in Israel.

The group pretended to be the buyers of a bankrupt trading platform from which they had obtained the list of investors, and offered injured customers high-yield investments to recover their stake. To do this, the latter had to open a bank account and provide the “traders” with a bank details, proof of address and identity papers.

A victim at 300,000 euros

It was then very easy for the team to take control of this new bank account to take out loans. In the case of the victim of Château-Landon, they were able to recover 75,000 euros. And unfortunately for her, the ordeal did not stop there, since the offenders were also able to access her various bank accounts through remote computer control software.

As a result, 225,000 euros were stolen from this person, who did not realize anything thanks to the establishment of false bank statements. The stolen money has since been laundered by fake cryptocurrency traders. The 13 other victims accumulated 50,000 euros in damage, a limited loss thanks in particular to the action of the gendarmerie, which had been following the case since June 2022.
