A new scam is on the rise. Fake police officers want to steal money from you via Messenger. The real authorities warn.

In order to lure you into a scam, cybercriminals like to pretend to be interesting internet acquaintances. In a recent case, however, they do not play with your feelings in order to get your money afterwards, but pretend to be police officers.
The Ludwigshafen police department reports on a specific case in which a 25-year-old met an Italian named “Dave” on the Internet. He informed her via messenger that he wanted to visit her in Germany. Shortly thereafter, the young woman was informed via messenger by a supposed police officer that “Dave” was a wanted criminal. The fake officer put pressure on her and demanded a low four-digit amount in the form of voucher cards.
The 25-year-old went into the ominous deal and shortly afterwards realized that she was the victim of a scam. We advise you to always be suspicious of online acquaintances and not to transfer money to strangers. You can also be sure that a real police officer will never ask you for money and will not contact you via messenger. If that is the case, the conversation ends immediately.
