The shooting for the new TVNow series “Faking Hitler” with Moritz Bleibtreu and Lars Eidinger has started.

Filming for the TVNow series “Faking Hitler” began in Düsseldorf last week, as the broadcaster announced. The six-part film with Moritz Bleibtreu (49, “Cut off”) and Lars Eidinger (45, “Mackie Messer – Brecht’s Threepenny Film”) in the lead roles is expected to be at the end of 2021 on TVNow be visible. “Faking Hitler” is based on the true story of the supposed Hitler diaries.

The magazine “Stern” published excerpts from the diaries in 1983, which a short time later turned out to be forgeries. Art forger Konrad Kujau (1938-2000) had sold Hitler’s alleged documents to the magazine for 9.3 million Deutschmarks.

Lars Eidinger will play the faked “Stern” journalist Gerd Heidemann (89), while Moritz Bleibtreu will play Konrad Kujau. Sinje Irslinger (25), Daniel Donskoy (31, “The Crown”) and Ulrich Tukur (63, “Tatort”) can also be seen in other roles. The real affair about the Hitler diaries is expanded to include fictional storylines. Young editor Elisabeth Stölzl (Irslinger) is the victim of blackmail by the Nazi hunter Leo Gold (Donskoy). This confronts her with her father’s (Tukur) Nazi past.

Current topics should also play a role: fake news, the trivialization of National Socialism and the seduction of people. Tobi Baumann (46) and Wolfgang Groos (52) are directing the film, and Tommy Wosch (52), Dominik Moser and Annika Cizek are responsible for the script.
