Family suffered shock – hiker (75) with light shoes crashed

A hiking excursion by a Chinese family in the Stubai Valley ended fatally for a 75-year-old on Friday: the man suddenly stepped into space on a marked trail and fell 25 meters over a slope. He was badly injured.

On Friday at 11 a.m., a 75-year-old Chinese and his 65-year-old wife, their 38-year-old daughter and her 41-year-old German husband hiked on the marked path or climb from the Autenalm in Neustift i.St. (Altitude 1665 m) in the direction of the Elferlifte mountain station (altitude 1810 m).

Step into the void
The son-in-law and daughter went ahead. The 75-year-old, who was only wearing light shoes, followed them. His wife came last. The Chinese walked along the side of the road and suddenly stepped “into the void” with his left foot, whereby he lost his balance and fell over the edge of the road about 25 meters over a steep meadow and a slope interspersed with bushes.

The police helicopter hid family members
He suffered serious injuries and had to be flown to the Innsbruck clinic by emergency helicopter. His companions were in shock and were then rescued unharmed by the police helicopter using rope and brought into the valley. The mountain rescue service Neustift i. St. was on duty with eight members.
