Hopp documentary angered Hoffenheim fans
Vicious cries and banners in stadiums against Hoffenheim patron Hopp are often below the belt. In the scandalous game against FC Bayern, the statements even lead to the game being interrupted. A ZDF documentary now suggests that the club has accepted the derailments in a media-effective manner.
The ongoing conflict between Hoffenheim’s patron Dietmar Hopp and the fan scene has led to an unusual reaction – in the camp of its own supporters. The “Kraichgau Section” fan club calls on the Bundesliga club to clarify the events surrounding the scandalous game between TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and FC Bayern Munich in February 2020. The background is the content of a ZDF documentary, according to which those responsible at both clubs knew before the game that there would be vehement abuse against Hopp again.
“These facts lead to the assumption that the pictures of February 29th were consciously accepted in order to stylize Dietmar Hopp as a victim in the media,” wrote the “Kraichgau Section” on their homepage and in the social networks. “Since TSG Hoffenheim did not want to take a position in the ZDF documentary, we hereby request the office to make a public statement regarding the events of February 29, 2020!”
In addition, the fan group also published photos with banners of similar content, which they said they hung up on the night of Sunday at the Hoffenheim training grounds. The game in Sinsheim was interrupted when the score was 6-0 for Munich because of insults from the Bayern block. In the rest of the season, both teams only pushed the ball to each other. Hopp and Bayern boss Karl-Heinz Rummenigge demonstratively stood arm in arm on the edge of the field. The case made headlines.
Fans of traditional clubs in particular do not like Hoffenheim and Hopp, as TSG, with the support of the billionaire, rose from the amateur sector to the top of the Bundesliga within a few years. A TSG spokesman said on dpa request about the fan group’s request: “We had already been in contact with the fan scene beforehand and will now contact this fan group again.”
