Jared Harris as Dumbledore?
Originally, to take over the role of young Dumbledore, rumors had mentioned Christian Bale, Benedict Cumberbatch then Jared Harris (the Moriarty of Sherlock Holmes 2 who is none other than the son of the late Richard Harris, interpreter of Albus Dumbledore in Chris Columbus’ first two Harry Potter films). Finally, Jude Law was chosen to play the director of Hogwarts in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
Omar Sy declines
As he had revealed in the program “Au Tableau!” on C8, French comedian Omar Sy could have played a role in Fantastic Beasts, but ultimately chose to decline the offer: “I think I just turned down one that’s going to be a hit. (…) He’s turning now (…). It’s the sequel to Fantastic Beasts, the sequel to Harry Potter. The role that was in it was repetitive. It’s something I’ve played before. Because I don’t want to arrive on a set and be jaded. That is to say, to be there as if it were normal. It’s extraordinary to be on a film set and I want to keep this wonder when I’m there. If I start doing the stuff I’ve already done, it’s not going to be terrible.”
Manufacture of animals
As was already the case for the first part of the Fantastic Beasts, crafting the creatures took months of graphic design, modeling, and animation testing to determine each animal’s appearance, behavior, movements, attitude, and personality. For several of them, JK Rowling was inspired by legendary creatures from different cultures, such as the Chinese Zouwu, the Scottish Kelpy and the French Matagot. “I am fascinated by mythologies and traditions from all over the world and when a creature exists in a mythology it has a particular depth and authenticity. But sometimes I have to start from scratch and I also like to do it that way”she explains.
