Fantastic Beasts 3: Dumbledore declares his love and ignites Harry Potter fans

“I’m in love with you”! Dumbledore declares his love for Grindelwald in new Fantastic Beasts 3 video…

Warner Bros. France

This is a replica that should not fail to make fans of the Harry Potter saga react! In the latest video from Fantastic Beasts 3, in this case an international TV spot, Dumbledore finally clearly reveals his secret love for his rival, Grindelwald.

In this 30-second video, which you can watch below, Jude Law says these words: “It’s because I was in love with you“.”It’s because I was in love with you“, in French. A phrase he utters after implying that Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen) would be by his side

In the Harry Potter books, it was implied that a romance had existed between the two characters, which JK Rowling later confirmed, saying Dumbledore was gay.

As reported The Independent, the initial fan reactions to this video were generally very positive. More broadly, the arrival of Mads Mikkelsen, in place of Johnny Depp, in the role of Grindelwald, was also well received.

As the first trailer for the film showed, the confrontation between Dumbledore and his sworn enemy Grindelwald will be at the heart of this third installment. Fantastic Beasts 3 is expected in theaters on April 13.

Fantastic Beasts 3: Mads Mikkelsen confirmed to replace Johnny Depp

Remember that in the previous Fantastic Beasts opus, there was no question of Dumbledore’s homosexuality being said or shown explicitly. In 2018, director David Yates said: “Not explicitly. But anyway the fans know it. He had a very intense relationship with Grindelwald when they were young. They fell in love with each other, with their ideas.”

“[Dumbledore] is a dissident and a rebel, and an inspirational teacher at Hogwarts, he continued. He is witty and always one step ahead. He’s not that old veteran [des précédents films]. (…) And facing Johnny Depp [depuis remplacé par Mads Mikkelsen pour l’épisode 3] in Grindelwald, they form an incredible duo“.

Taken to task on the subject on Twitter, the creator of the Harry Potter universe and the author of the scripts for the 5 Fantastic Beasts films JK Rowling, had then wanted to defend David Yates and explain what he meant: “That I’m being harassed over an interview that isn’t mine, about a screenplay I wrote but none of the haters read, and which is part of a franchise of 5 films, one of which is came out is hilarious; but you know what’s even “more” hilarious?“.

It was then deduced that the homosexuality of the character of Dumbledore would have plenty of time to be addressed in the upcoming films of the Fantastic Beasts saga, which is confirmed by this new video.

For the record, the revelation of the sexual orientation of Albus Dumbledore had been made by JK Rowling in 2007.
