Fantastic Beasts 3: Who Could Replace Johnny Depp as Gellert Grindelwald?

Johnny Depp is no longer part of Fantastic Beasts. Who could shine as a charismatic and dangerous Grindelwald?

It didn't take long before actor Johnny Depp's (57) lost court case had professional consequences for the star. Depp recently announced that the Warner Bros. film studio had asked him to step down from his role as villain Gellert Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts series. In addition, the upcoming third part was postponed from November 2021 to summer 2022, probably mainly to find a replacement for the actor who was killed. "Harry Potter" fans are of course hotly debating who could replace Depp as the main antagonist.

The practical: Since "Fantastic Beasts" takes place in the realm of magic, there is basically free choice for the replacement. The dark magician could finally have conjured up a completely different look and would not have to look like Depp in any way. A suggestion that can be read again and again in various forums would therefore be Mads Mikkelsen (54). With roles as "Bond" villain or serial cannibal "Hannibal", the actor has proven that he can master the mixture of charismatic and diabolical.

Michael Fassbender (43) is also mentioned several times, as is Hollywood's favorite rogue import, Christoph Waltz (64). Other names floating around on the net are Joel Edgerton (46), Brad Pitt (56), "Avengers" -nemesis Tom Hiddleston (39) alias Loki, Colin Farrell (44) and "Game of Thrones" -Mime Nikolaj Coster- Waldau (50). The decision of whether it will really be one of these dream candidates or whether Warner Bros. conjures up a completely different star out of the hat will probably be a long time coming.
