Fantastic Beasts 3: Will Katherine Waterston (Tina Goldstein) be in the film?

Missing from the promotional posters and the trailer for “Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore’s Secrets”, will Katherine Waterston alias Tina Goldstein be in David Yates’ next film? Télé Star is looking into the matter.

But where did Tina Goldstein go? This is the question that torments fans of the saga Fantastic Beasts for several months now. Although considered one of the main characters of the spin-off of the saga Harry Potter, the witch embodied by Katherine Waterston does not appear on the promotional posters of the next Fantastic Beastsnor in the official trailer of the film, unveiled on February 28 by Warner Bros. studios. As a result, moviegoers are wondering. Will the salamander-eyed Auror be on the bill or not? Dumbledore’s Secrets ?

Officially, yes. Since the launch of the saga Fantastic Beasts in 2016, there was never any question that Katherine Waterston would not participate in the five films planned for the saga. Note, in addition, that she interprets a very important character for the hero of the story, Norbert Dragonneau (Eddie Redmayne), since according to the story of JK Rowling, it is she who will later become the wife of the magizoologist. She is also the sister of Queenie Goldstein (Alison Sudol), another protagonist of the saga destined to play a role of paramount importance in the continuation of the narrative. It would therefore be very surprising if the studios decided to part ways with Tina.

A voluntary departure of Katherine Waterston?

However, conversely, Tina, or rather Katherine Waterston, could herself choose to separate from the saga., especially since the atmosphere around it is far from being good. Since June 2020, the Warner Bros. studio franchise. suffered the fallout from transphobic manifesto of its screenwriter, JK Rowling, in which the latter takes a stand against transgender women. It is therefore possible that Katherine Waterston has chosen to move away from it, especially since she has positioned herself against the advice of JK Rowling on several occasions.

Shortly after Rowling’s publication on social networks, the actress shared an article by The Guardian entitled “Trans women pose no danger to cis women, but we endanger them by excluding them.” A few months later, during an interview with The Independentshe again raised the subject: “I think, as I was associated with a film project… As I was associated with Fantastic Beasts, it was important to express my positionsshe confided. We tell ourselves that others might believe that we think the same thing, by association.” Note that at the time, the actress had expressed herself in the imperfect. Fantastic Beasts voluntarily without Warner deeming it necessary to let it be known?

Where could Tina be?

For now, Katherine Waterston is still part of the magic saga and Tina’s absence from the promotional campaign for Dumbledore’s Secrets could be explained in many ways. First of all, it is possible that in full ascent of Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen), Tina is sent away from Norbert by the Magical Congress of the United States of Americapossibly undercover in the camp of the Dark Mage himself. A fan theory also raises the possibility that Tina is hiding in the body of Bunty (Victoria Yeates), Norbert’s assistant, thanks to the Polyjuice, so as not to attract the attention of Grindelwald, who has already rallied his sister in the previous film. Although preposterous, this theory could explain why Warner does not comment on the absence of Tina on the promotional images. Tina is there, she just has a different physique. Note that in the trailer unveiled on Monday February 28, Bunty says to Norbert words that suggest that she could be hiding something: “No one can know everything. not even you“, she launches to the magizoologist.

So, is Tina hidden in Bunty’s body, gone on a mission far from Norbert or simply removed from the film at the will of her interpreter? Answer on April 13 in theaters in Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore’s Secrets.
