“Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” is broadcast this Sunday evening on TF1. The opportunity to remember that a famous French actor refused to participate in the second part of the magic saga!
The feature film Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, broadcast this Sunday evening on TF1, almost had a certain Omar Sy in its credits! But the French actor politely declined the offer to play in the second installment of the magic saga.
It was in 2016, on the show Au Tableau! on C8, thatOmar Sy revealed that he said no to a role in Fantastic Beasts 2. “I think I just turned down one who is going to be a hit”, he said then. “It’s turning now, which I think will work. It’s the sequel to Fantastic Beasts, the sequel to Harry Potter.”
And Omar Sy to explain the reasons for this refusal. “The role that was in it was repetitive. It’s something I’ve done before”he said. “I don’t want to arrive on a set and be jaded. That is to say, to be there as if it were normal. It’s extraordinary to be on a film set and I I want to keep this wonder when I’m there. If I start doing the things I’ve already done, it’s not going to be terrible.”
One year before the show Au Tableau!, Omar Sy revealed to our microphone that he often refused roles in the United States. “To be very honest with you, I refused more than accepted in Hollywood! Because already, I don’t have much time”, he explained to us. “And then, I don’t take everything that comes! Everything that comes is not necessarily what I want to try. It is curiosity, desire that guides me.”
“So yes, I want to shoot there, I’m having fun. There are really great projects, I’ve done great things there. But I’m not ready for everything and I don’t I don’t want everything there”continued the actor. “There are things to take and throw away, like everywhere, like in France. (…) I try that each project is not a repetition of the other. To be able to tell myself one day, I tried everything I could try. explore new things.”
Omar Sy has a fine career across the Atlantic, including roles in X-Men: Days of Future Past, Jurassic World, Jurassic World: The World After (in theaters June 8) and Transformers: The Last Knight, where he lends his voice (in the VO) to the character of Hot Rod.
