The next opus of the MCU is taking shape. According to our colleagues at Deadline, the film Fantastic Four would have thus found the incarnation of his Silver Surfer in the person of the actress Julia Garner, known for her roles in the series Ozark And Inventing Anna.
A female version of the Silver Surfer
If we are still awaiting confirmation from Marvel Studios, Garner would play Shalla-Bal. The character appeared in 1968 in Marvel comics, and was originally the first great love of the original Silver Surfer, whose real name was Norrin Radd, seen in the cinema in the 2007 film.
Shalla-Bal has only truly been a female version of the Silver Surfer once, in an issue of the comic series Earth X (published in 2000). A particular angle coming from Marvel, which should make the most conservative fans groan.
Because if Marvel prefers to do without (for the moment) the historical Silver Surfer, it is very possible that he will appear thanks to the possibilities of the Multiverse in the highly anticipated Avengers 5 And Avengers: Secret Wars.
The presence of the silver Surfer (or rather the Surfer) in the next Fantastic Four in any case seems to confirm Galactus, whose servant the character in question is, as a big bad guy. Rumors indicate that the terrible Galactus could be played by Javier Bardem (Dune, No Country for Old Men).
Directed by Matt Shakman (Wandavision, Succession) on a script by the trio Josh Friedman (Avatar 2), Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer, Fantastic Four The cast includes Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. Its filming is due to begin this summer.
The film should tell the adventures of these heroes exposed to cosmic rays and developing superpowers. It should also inaugurate the next major “space” arc of the MCU in a story still kept secret, but which would probably take place in the 1960s.
Fantastic Four is expected in theaters on July 23, 2025. In the meantime, almost all of the MCU films are available on the Disney+ streaming platform, with the exception of the most recent ones.
