Prince Charles has traveled to Barbados to attend a ceremony to abolish the monarchy in the former colony.

The island state of Barbados abolishes the monarchy. Queen Elizabeth II (95) will no longer be the head of state of the former British colony from November 30th. Prince Charles, 73, has even traveled to Barbados to attend the related celebrations.

Sandra Mason is the future president

Barbados has been independent since 1966 and becomes a republic tomorrow, Tuesday. So far the Queen has been represented there by a Governor General. Sandra Mason (72), Governor General of Barbados since 2018, will take her oath as President on November 30th. Prince Charles, who has now landed on site, will attend the ceremony.

“It is time to leave our colonial past completely behind us,” Mason announced last year, among other things. A spokesman for the palace had only commented at the time that this was a matter for the government and the people of Barbados. Most recently, it became known in early November that Charles would attend the ceremony as a guest of honor at the invitation of Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley (56).
