Despite the corona and home office lull, 2020 has spawned quite a few trends. These it-pieces determined the end of the fashion year.
The fashion year 2020 turned out differently for designers and fashionistas worldwide than initially assumed. Due to the corona pandemic, shows had to be canceled and a number of favorite items lingered in the closet. Still, one or the other trend made it onto the street. An overview.
Bucket hats
Fashionistas probably owe it to Billie Eilish (19, "bad guy") that the bucket hat found its way into the modeling world. The singer showed herself at the beginning of her career with the boxy headgear, which used to be only part of the equipment of fishermen. In 2020, the hat finally made it onto the fashion scene and it has also impressed influencers like Olivia Palermo (34).
Shoulder pads
Nothing worked without shoulder pads in 2020. Shirts, blazers and pullovers were given the iconic cut of the eighties. The fans of the fashion revival include not only stars like the former US beauty queen and actress Olivia Culpo (28, "Die Schadenfreundinnen"). Duchess Kate (38) has also increasingly resorted to clothing with prominent shoulders in recent months.
Mom jeans
The casual and comfortable cut of the mom jeans convinced a number of women in 2020, including Cathy Hummels (32). Why are the pants so practical? They can be combined sportily with sneakers and sweaters as well as chic with heels and blazers.
"Classic Blue"
The color institute Pantone named "Classic Blue" the color of the year 2020. The rich blue was able to convince TV presenter Alina Merkau (34), among others, but it did not really want to assert itself in the fashion sector. Rather, the shade enjoyed great popularity in the make-up and nail polish sectors.
Bustiers
In 2019 it was crop tops, in 2020 the fabric became a little shorter: bustiers made their way into the everyday wardrobe of many fashionistas. How was the garment mainly worn? As a fashionable replacement for a bra under blazers or see-through tops. Influencer Caro Daur (25) couldn't resist the style either.
Underboob bikinis
There was also a clear trend in swimwear in 2020. True to the motto "less is more", stars like Rita Ora (30, "For You") or Bella Hadid (24) put their underbusts in the limelight with the so-called "underboob" section. But also with this year's panties, especially the bikini thongs, a lot of material was saved. The bottoms were mostly worn high waisted in 2020.
Batik
What was already popular in the 1990s celebrated a fashionable comeback around 25 years later: The batik look shaped the 2020 fashion year – and young celebrities such as Justin Bieber (26, "Holy") and his wife Hailey (24) liked to jump on the train with on. Particularly in demand: jogging pants and hoodies with a gradient. Greetings from the Corona year.
Square toe shoes
If there is one model that deserves the title of "Shoe of the Year 2020", it is this: Square-toe shoes have been all the rage in the past few months. Bell bottoms
Another trend that the fashion world knows from before: bell-bottoms were also able to celebrate a comeback in 2020. Influencer Xenia Adonts (28) is convinced. Today, the iconic cut has long since come not only in denim, but also in soft jersey and fine knit variants.
Mouthguard
A trend that everyone would have liked to have done without in 2020, but nobody came around it: mouth and nose covering. Due to the corona pandemic, hardly anything has been going on without her since spring. Stars like fashion influencer Leonie Hanne (32) or music great Lady Gaga (34, "Born This Way") showed, however, that masks can definitely be used as a fashion accessory.
