Fashion trends: We're not going to do these 90s trends (again)

No thanks!
We're not going along with these 90s trends (again)

Those 90s trends are back – but without us this time.

Trends come and go – and with some fashion pieces we are happy if they simply never become modern again and we can ban them from our wardrobe forever.

Hand on heart: haven't we all worn outfits or fashion pieces that we are ashamed of today? But what can we say – that used to be all the rage. Today most of these things have already landed in the used clothes container or are lingering in dusty basement boxes and waiting to be dug out for the next "Bad Taste" party. And photos of these looks? They are well hidden, if not disposed of. Time heals all wounds – including fashion wounds.

But what if exactly such "horror clothes" become fashionable again? When we see them at international fashionistas or on the catwalk? Instead of falling into shock or even going to the nearest fashion store and buying the item in question (again), we just say "No thanks, without me". Because we don't have to go along with every trend – and certainly not twice.

Hip pants: a trend below the belt

Oh, what did we love them in the past? In the 1990s, hipsters couldn't sit low enough. Whether Britney Spears or Victoria Beckham, they all wore it up and down, in most cases even combined it with a crop top. The daring cut was – if we are honest – for most of us anything but advantageous and so it is not surprising that after a while it got on the blacklist of jeans. Now she's celebrating her comeback – but without us. Because as much as we love jeans, the waistband can go down to the waist.

Bye-bye plastic rings

And the coveted squeaky-colored plastic rings, of which we wore one on each finger in the 90s, are back again. We last saw her on the hand of the singer Dua Lipa or the model Bella Hadid. But in our opinion they should stay there: Because the colorful plastic rings are very reminiscent of pieces of jewelry from the chewing gum machine. As a funny gag for the next carnival party, they are a pretty accessory, but rather unsuitable for everyday office life. We'd rather go for eye-catching chunky chains in gold.

Simply not beneficial: waterfall tops

For a while, they were our loyal companions in bars and clubs: tops with a waterfall neckline. Styled in our favorite combination with a tattoo chain or a choker and hipsters, we rocked the dance floor. The fashion models at the time, Christina Aguilera and Paris Hilton, showed the way and wore these tops up and down until they were forgotten at some point. Now we see her again with the Kardashians, among others. But do we really want this 90s trend back in our closets? Not really. Because the tops with the intended folds are not advantageous. They do not create flattering proportions – neither on the back nor on the front. Because yes, exactly, some people simply wore the top the wrong way round, so that the neckline was at the back. Today we prefer to wear tops with sexy cut-outs or sophisticated puff sleeves. In contrast to the waterfall tops, they conjure up flattering proportions – and we can be sure that everything stays in place.
