Ilka Bessin not only has a snappy saying on her lips with her fictional character “Cindy from Marzahn”, she can also counter well in private. Especially when it comes to outdated fashion myths, she doesn’t hold back.

There are many myths circulating in the fashion world: You shouldn’t mix different patterns. Or: silver and gold jewelery do not go together. Even when it comes to stripes, there is a vehement belief that vertical stripes make you look slimmer and horizontal stripes make you look bigger. Even Obelix says in the comic “Asterix and Maestria”: “Whereas everyone knows that only vertical stripes make you slim!”. Comedian Ilka Bessin proves that this is not the case on Instagram. She poses in front of a bright wall in an ankle-length striped dress, a green shirt that she wears open over the dress, orange slippers and XL glasses.
Ilka takes a position in the caption and writes: “Picture in front of a white wall, yes, someone shouts again: ‘Fat people shouldn’t wear stripes.’ I can’t hear anything in my ear! The shoes are also important and the picture in which I look like I’m about to be picked up by the bus is even more important.” Packed with humor, she makes an important point very clear: everyone should be able to wear what makes them happy, because that radiates to the outside world. And no one, absolutely no one should interfere in this regard.

It’s not the first time Ilka has addressed the topic on her Instagram account. Under a picture from March 13, which shows her in a green tube dress, she writes combatively: “I’m posting the photo, although I know that I’ll get a lot of not so nice messages again.” She goes on to say that she would love the color and therefore does not want to do without it. It is much more important that everyone finds peace, love and acceptance.
And your message gets through. Loving and supportive comments accumulate under the most recent post on Instagram. A user writes: “I don’t see a ‘fat’ in front of a white wall! I see a beautiful woman in a beautiful dress who can laugh at herself and makes others laugh!” And colleague Janine Kunze also agrees how good Ilka would look in the picture. The photo proves once again: body myths are primarily one thing: beliefs handed down by people that have no factual basis. All the better that Ilka has already charmingly exposed an outdated fashion rule as wrong.
