Fat pickup – Electric RAM 1500 comes with mega features

“Envy is a dog,” they say. In this case, he barks loudly to the USA, where the electrically specified RAM pickup has just been presented. For the time being only as a study, but the production model should already be on the market in 2024. And this e-truck has it all!

Envy because the RAM brand, which belongs to the Stellantis Group, is not represented in Austria. And we would also like the Ford counterpart F-150 Lightning in this country. But let’s stay with the “RAM 1500 Revolution BEV Concept Car”. The truck is based on the new STLA frame architecture developed for large electric vehicles with a non-self-supporting body. The battery pack is integrated under the floor with full underbody paneling and an active diffuser. There is no information on the capacity yet, but it will probably not be less than the competitor from Ford – there are either 98 or 131 kWh available. However, the RAM loads much faster. Thanks to 800 volts, the electrons whistle into the storage system with 350 kW, which means that a range of up to 160 kilometers can be achieved in around ten minutes. The Ford F-150 Lightning only charges with 400 V and 150 kW.Two electric motors ensure all-wheel drive. And all the wheels on the study are also steered: the rear ones allow for a record-breaking steering angle of 15 degrees! For example, the frunk that can be opened electrically or the multifunction rear door divided in the middle. The study features flush door handles, side and rear entry aids and an active diffuser. Instead of the exterior mirrors, the concept car has digital cameras in small and lightweight housings made of 3D-printed materials. Okay, a truck driver won’t miss that either. The hourglass body and flared wheel arches accommodate 35-inch tires on 24-inch wheels with wheel hub caps that light up and stay in place horizontally while driving. The 1500 Revolution BEV concept car also has automatic level control. New intelligent safety systems and smaller, more powerful electric motors made it possible to move the cabin forward and lengthen it by more than ten centimeters compared to today’s production vehicle – with the same length of loading area. Third Row of seats with folding seatsIn the 1500 BEV concept car there is a third row of seats with folding seats for the first time. The electrically operated center door features folding seats with a removable base that can be stored in the truck bed or outside the vehicle. The center door with electric rear window opens a passage from the front luggage compartment to the loading area, allowing objects up to 5.50 meters long to be loaded with the tailgate closed. The touchscreen consists of two screens with a total of up to 28 inches display diagonal. The lower section can be removed and used as a tablet, passenger display, truck bed workstation, vehicle controller or video game controller. The top screen can also be slid on the rail mounting system. A flat top and bottom collapsible steering wheel features capacitive controls and digital screens. The glass roof can be darkened electrochromatically. Several external projectors can transmit information visually – or are used for a spontaneous drive-in evening. Innovative assistance systems The RAM study features a number of innovative systems. In this way, the car is able to automatically follow the pedestrian driver. “Shadow Mode” is what they call the manufacturer. On the road, the RAM Concept can drive autonomously at Level 3, for which the steering wheel is retracted to offer the driver more space. Only this much is revealed about the production model: It should be in the combination of the areas of range, trailer load, payload and loading time leading.
