Fat surcharge – Dacia Jogger: Now the people’s bus comes as a hybrid

The range of engines and transmissions of the Dacia Jogger has so far been fairly manageable: a petrol engine with a manual transmission. Now follows what was missing for many: a hybrid, and it has an automatic transmission.

With the Jogger, Dacia has made a big hit: A van reduced to the essentials with a lot of space and up to seven seats, which has been so popular that they have increased the prices several times since it was launched. Although only the 110 hp three-cylinder petrol engine has been available so far, more than 2000 units have been sold in Austria alone since it went on sale in March 2022. The Romanians speak of 83,000 orders worldwide – and that the Jogger has established itself “as the second strongest model in the C segment (without SUVs) in the private customer market” in less than a year , known from the Renault Clio. The 140 hp drive consists of a 1.6-liter four-cylinder and two electric motors. The main electric motor is integrated into the transmission, is used for the drive and changes the gears. The weaker aggregate serves as a starter generator. The clutchless multi-mode transmission has two gears for the electric drive and four gears for the combustion engine, which can be suitably combined. Gear changes take place automatically and without the driver having to do anything. In B mode, the braking effect is increased by recuperation when the accelerator is released. The 1.2 kWh 230-volt battery is housed in the spare wheel well. In city traffic, the jogger is to drive 80 percent electrically, which should result in up to 40 percent lower fuel consumption compared to a vehicle with a pure combustion engine. Dacia specifies 4.9 to 4.8 l/100 km as WLTP consumption and gives a WLTP range of over 900 kilometers. More equipment than the combustion engine In contrast to the combustion engine jogger, the hybrid has a digital speedometer unit with a customizable 7-inch Screen on which, for example, the charge level of the drive battery, the remaining range and the energy flow can be displayed. Also standard here is an electric parking brake and a center console with a closed storage compartment and armrest. Otherwise, the hybrid jogger offers the same qualities that we have already emphasized in the combustion engine driving reports. In the press release, Dacia goes one step further and not only exaggerates in terms of gender: “Robust and with good road holding, the jogger offers all passengers – even adults in the third row of seats – excellent comfort.” Can be ordered from January 2023, from March at dealers . The hybrid drive is only available from the middle equipment level Expression and costs as a five-seater from 24,490 euros (i.e. 4800 euros more than the combustion engine). It is built in the Romanian plant in Mioveni (near the town of Piteşti).
