May 3 (Reuters) – Automotive supplier Faurecia and water and waste management specialist Veolia announced on Tuesday the signing of a cooperation and research agreement around the use of recycled plastics in the automobile industry.

This alliance, which has set itself the objective of achieving an average of 30% recycled plastics in car interiors by 2025, should enable Faurecia to reduce its CO2 emissions, in accordance with the group’s objectives in terms of carbon neutrality.

“We will accelerate the introduction of revolutionary sustainable materials and their bringing to market, while helping to reduce plastic waste and strengthen the circular economy”, explains Patrick Koller, Chief Executive Officer of Faurecia, in a press release.

Veolia has been supplying recycled materials to the automotive industry for five years, in a context of increasing demand for recycled plastic.

“The collaboration with Faurecia allows us to increase our supply of secondary raw materials for the automotive industry through the development of high value-added compounds,” says Estelle Brachlianoff, Deputy CEO of Veolia. Veolia will begin production of secondary raw materials at its existing recycling sites in France from 2023. (Report Augustin Turpin; edited by Kate Entringer)
