Faustine Bollaert, anxious mother because of her show

Host of a program where women and men come to tell her remarkable stories, Faustine Bollaert confided in Psychologies on the difficulties that this implied in her personal life.

She has been collecting sometimes terrifying testimonies on her couch since 2017, in It starts today on France 2. Faustine Bollaert, also mother of two children, Abbie and Peter, recently made the front page of Psychologies magazine. In a long interview, she confided in her personal life, but also professional.

The 42-year-old journalist confessed that the stories she hears daily on her show exacerbated her mum anxieties, and affected her family life in the early days. She says she has “Received in the face” the testimonials she receives, due “Extreme emotions” that she could feel. She even admits: “I was haunted by their stories”.

A mother’s life turned upside down

Faced with the chilling stories she collects, ranging from the murder of a loved one to suicide, Faustine Bollaert saw her balance gradually falter, starting with that which she maintained with her children. “Were my children in great shape?” It wasn’t going to last. My son was disappearing in a park? He had been kidnapped, she says. And then one evening I come home. (…) I am particularly freaked out. I’m coming out of a program on child crime. However, I feel that my daughter is not well. I worry … And I bombard her with questions, all angled around possibly inappropriate gestures. In my daughter’s eyes, I see tears rising, my questions scare her. She just had a problem with a girlfriend, and me, I had overwhelmed her with anxieties that were not of her age. “ After changing her house code ten times and having ten mammograms, she finally realized the situation was getting out of hand.

By realizing that she was “taking” her children “In (s) the blacknesses”, she made a choice that she does not regret: that of getting help from a third party.
