FC Barcelona: Ousmane Dembélé skipped training

The rag is burning more and more between FC Barcelona and Ousmane Dembélé. Pushed out because of his desire not to extend his contract, the French striker did not show up this Sunday for training for the Catalan club.

Ousmane Dembélé and his teammates at Barça had an appointment at the club’s training center, before the trip to the match scheduled for the evening at Alavès. All available players have answered the call. All but one: the 2018 tricolor world champion. The former Rennes player was conspicuous by his absence, when the leaders asked him to “leave immediately” at the end of last week.

The club immediately called the Frenchman to show up for the call-up but he reportedly said he was sick and suffering from stomach issues. “Barça first-team player Ousmane Dembélé did not show up at Ciutat Espotiva Joan Gamper this morning, despite being called up, due to a gastric illness,” Barcelona said.

The excuse given by Dembélé did not at all convince the club, which would consider sanctioning him for having violated the rules which oblige players to go to the club’s facilities before the communication of the group selected for the meeting.

Unsurprisingly, Xavi therefore did not retain Ousmane Dembélé for the match of the 22nd day of La Liga on the lawn of Alavès. “Ousmane’s situation has not changed, he knows what situation he is in and he has to decide. Nothing has changed”, had already indicated the day before the Barcelona coach, while the former player of Borussia Dortmund refused the offers of contract extension and could leave free next June.

And in view of the situation, which continues to escalate between the two parties, it is unlikely to see Dembélé put on the Blaugrana jersey again. It remains to be seen whether he will find a new base and whether a club is ready to invest in him one week before the end of the winter transfer window.
