Sensation is far away for Bayern giants

The FC Bayern basketball team celebrates a surprise win against FC Barcelona in the quarter-finals of the Euroleague. But the big favorite quickly rehabilitated. Now the sensation is far away again.
The basketball players of FC Bayern Munich are threatened with the end in the playoff quarterfinals of the Euroleague. The Bundesliga club lost the third of five possible games in Munich against FC Barcelona 66:75 (31:49) and is 1:2 behind in the best-of-five series. With a defeat on Friday (8.45 p.m. / Magentasport) in the fourth meeting again in Munich, FC Bayern would be eliminated. If they succeed, there will be a decider in Barcelona.
The Euroleague title favorite from Spain showed a clear improvement in form from the start after the surprising home defeat in game two. Despite the home advantage, Bayern could not keep up against the star ensemble, unlike in the two appearances in Barcelona. Led by former NBA pro Nikola Mirotic, the guests were already leading 26:17 after ten minutes. By the break, the Catalans had even increased their lead to 18 points.
Bayern were much more attentive in the third quarter and were able to make the game more than balanced. After 30 minutes, coach Andrea Trinchieri’s team reduced the deficit to ten points (49:59), thanks in part to the unerring Vladimir Lucic and a strong defense. With a quick 8:2 run, however, Barcelona decided the game early in the fourth round and made the 2:1 series lead perfect.
The best scorer for Bayern was Lucic with 17 points, while Deshaun Thomas, who was excellent in game two with 25 points, only had four points. For FC Barcelona, the outstanding Mirotic scored the best with 25 points.
