FC Bayern: Bayer Leverkusen star Jonathan Tah apparently on the way

Tah is moving to FC Bayern, big contract beckons

Bayer Leverkusen is apparently paying a high price for the most successful season in the club’s history: national defender Jonathan Tah is about to move to FC Bayern. According to a report, the record champions have already reached an agreement with the central defender.

Jonathan Tah apparently wants to leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer and join FC Bayern. The central defender of the German football champions has informed the Leverkusen officials of his desire to move, reports Sky. The 28-year-old international, who is under contract in Leverkusen for another year, is said to have already verbally agreed to a transfer with the Munich team. According to Sky, Tah has been given a contract with the record champions until 2029.

“I’m thinking about what the next right step is for me,” Tah said a few days ago. The next step should be “the right step and feel good.” Regarding Bayern’s interest, he said: “I’ve read a lot about it and I’m happy that I’m being linked with such a club.” Bayer had clearly communicated to him “that I either extend my contract or that I should leave because the club doesn’t want to get into a situation where a player leaves the club for free,” Tah explained. He could “fully understand” this and announced a timely decision. And what has now been made?

The fact is that the Hamburg native was one of the undisputed regulars in Bayer coach Xabi Alonso’s team last season. In 31 league matches, Tah played a key role in ensuring that the champions had by far the best defense (24 goals conceded). He also won the DFB Cup with the Rhinelanders and reached the Europa League final. He is also an undisputed regular in the national team under national coach Julian Nagelsmann, alongside Real Madrid’s Antonio Rüdiger.

In Tah, the club would lose an identification figure; the international player has been playing under the Bayer cross since the summer of 2015. He was signed by the double winners from Hamburger SV, who had, however, loaned the central defender to Fortuna Düsseldorf in the 2014/15 season. “I always had the goal of winning a title with Leverkusen, of winning something. I have now achieved that and played my part,” said Tah a few days ago: “We will see what happens in the future.”
