Lewandowski ends training early

The Gerd Müller record is within reach, but the body does not seem to play along as it should: Robert Lewandowski has to end a training session early. However, FC Bayern defused a media report about a possible injury as a reason.

Record scorer Robert Lewandowski caused anxious moments in the corona training camp of FC Bayern Munich. According to the “Bild” newspaper, the 32-year-old had to cancel the first session in Grassau am Chiemsee after just 40 minutes. The Pole had injured himself without outside interference, wrote the paper. Lewandowski left the training ground with team doctor Jochen Hahne and physiotherapist Gianni Bianchi. Later, the record champions gave the all-clear: According to the club, Lewandowski trained “a little shorter than the rest of the team due to stress control.”

A failure would come at an inopportune time for the world footballer. Lewandowski is about to break Gerd Müller’s “eternal” goal record (40 goals) from the 1971/72 season. In the games on Saturday (3.30 p.m. / Sky and in the live ticker on ntv.de.) against Freiburg and a week later against Augsburg he only needs one goal to stop the legendary brand.

Lewandowski has scored 39 goals in 27 missions so far. And the latest record clearly indicates that the 32-year-old has broken the record: In his past eight league appearances, the world footballer posted 15 goals. Lewandowski had missed four league games and the quarter-finals of the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain in April due to a ligament injury in his knee. In the summer, the attacker will also focus on the European Championship with Poland.

Corentin Tolisso was also present at the session on Thursday. The French midfielder was operated on for a torn tendon in his left thigh in mid-February and has been working on his comeback ever since.
