FCW catch-up comes too late – 3rd win in a row: FCZ wins entertaining cantonal derby 3:2 – Sport

  • FC Zurich defeated Winterthur 3-2 at home in the 10th round of the Super League.
  • In Letzigrund, Fabian Rohner made the decision in the 79th minute.
  • In the other game, GC won 3-0 in Yverdon. Stade-Lausanne-Ouchy loses 0-4 in St. Gallen.

In the 94th minute, Sayfallah Ltaief brought the tension back into the game. The attacker shortened the score to 2:3 after great preparatory work by Randy Schneider. Winterthur suddenly regained hope of perhaps taking a point from the leader. But the goal came too late. Zurich saved their lead over time in the final minutes and celebrated their third win in a row.

This made Fabian Rohner the match winner. In a long second half with few chances, the FCZ attacker made it 3-1 in the 79th minute. The Zurich team vehemently pursued a failed attack and caused Matteo Di Giusto to lose the ball. Antonio Marchesano reacted quickly and passed the ball into the path of Rohner, who slotted into the near corner to make it 3-1.

Winterthur with a cold start

In the first half, the guest from Winterthur fell behind early on. Rodrigo Conceicao beat Samuel Ballet on the left and created space to cross. The cross came to the far post to Nikola Boranijasevic, who volleyed in to make it 1-0 (2nd).

But Winterthur soon recovered from the shock and looked for a quick equalizer. However, the brilliant FCZ goalkeeper Yanick Brecher stood in the guests’ way every time. In the 25th minute, for example, after a touchdown from Di Giusto, he prevented the equalizer with a quick reflex. 6 minutes later, Brecher couldn’t do anything either: Matteo Di Giusto completed an attack worth seeing with a soulful direct pass to make it 1-1.

Leadership with the half-time whistle

As a result, the two teams engaged in an open exchange of blows. When almost everything pointed to an even score at halftime, Ifeanyi Mathew hit a long cross from his own half into the Winterthur penalty area in the 45th minute. Because Basil Stillhart misjudged an attempt to clear the ball, the ball flew to Marchesano. FCW goalie Marvin Keller overcame this with a lob after a wonderful reception.

Shortly after the break, Winterthur almost experienced déjà vu. However, Nikola Katic’s header goal from a corner in the 47th minute was disallowed because teammate Daniel Afriyie was offside and blocked Keller’s view.

This is how it continues

After the national team break, the two teams will continue in the Super League at the end of October. On October 21st, FCZ will be visiting the champions in Bern, and Winterthur will host FC St. Gallen the following day.
